How 'Jammu' got its Name • The city got its name from its founder Raja Jambu Lochan in 1400 BCE. • The name 'Jammu' is derived from Jambu. According to the popular beliefs, Raja Jambu Lochan during his hunting expeditions witnessed an unusual phenomenon across the Tawi river. He saw a goat and a tiger drinking water at the same place. The king founded the city of Jambu which is eventually known as Jammu.
